About Us
About the Company
Piccolo's and John A Gentleman have been Omaha institutions for decades. The leaders of the respective companies actually attended the same school (Creighton Prep) and to this day, attend the same church. It is this family feel that is so important to Tom and Frank that keeps their family of customers cominf back .
Since 1906, when John A. Gentleman began serving families, our community has changed in many ways. Our firm also matured and changed to meet the needs of a growing community. From our humble beginning at 20th and Cuming Street we have been there to assist families in providing a final tribute to those who have died.
It was in the 1920’s that the firm moved into the Gold Coast area of Omaha at 34th and Farnam Street and in 1968 the facility at 72nd and Western Avenue was opened. Once again, in 2002, we have responded to Omaha’s western growth by opening a facility at 14151 Pacific Street and in 2005 our Memorial Planning Center in Bellevue was completed to serve the needs of Bellevue and Sarpy County.
In 1956, John A. Gentleman retired and sold his firm to the Belford family, who continue to provide local ownership and guidance. While the name remains the same, we strive today to provide excellence in all of our services. Every day we come to work knowing that we can, in some way, provide a service that assists families in creating a unique service that celebrates a life.
We focus our attention on the families we serve, not distant shareholders. Our staff is knowledgeable and friendly, the facilities are modern and immaculate and our pricing is fair. We know that you will be so pleased with the services you receive that we personally guarantee your satisfaction. Today, without question, the John A. Gentleman Mortuaries offers the best value in this area.
John A Gentleman Philosophy
John A. Gentleman set personal attention as his first goal when he opened this firm in 1906, and today, our family continues to place your needs as our first priority. When we refer to “Service beyond the Service” you can be assured that the assistance your family receives during the course of a service continues after the funeral has ended.
The Botanical Memorial, is a living memorial that is planted in memory of those we have served. Support groups and other programs designed to help you work through your grief are examples of programs that are intended to support you and your family.
Today, with most of the local funeral service providers being owned by large and many times out of state companies, you should know that as a locally owned firm our loyalty is to the families we serve not to a far off board of director or stockholders. I can assure you will be pleased with the services we will provide, in fact, I personally guarantee that you will be pleased with our services.

Substitution Policy
Occasionally, substitutions may be necessary to create your bouquet due to the availability of certain flowers in various parts of the country. Care is taken to maintain the style, theme and color scheme of the arrangement, using flowers of equal value. Additionally, the substitution of certain keepsake items may be necessary due to increased demand, especially during major holidays. In single-flower arrangements, such as an all rose bouquet, or orchids, we will make every attempt to match the flower type, but may substitute with another color.
